Comparison of areas with periportal fibrosis stained with Masson’s trichrome. There was a gradual increase of periportal fibrosis across the different dpis, being statistically significant at 9 and 18 dpi (*) with respect the negative control group (P < 0.0001). The immunized animals showed slightly less fibrosis than those infected at 1 and 3 dpi. However, this decrease was significant at 9 and 18 dpi (+) (P < 0.0001).
