Dispensable role of sortase-A-dependent cell-wall-associated proteins associated with anti-S. aureus-induced growth inhibition. The involvement of antibody recognition of sortase-A-dependent cell-wall-associated proteins in the growth inhibition of S. aureus was addressed using S. aureus strains JE2 and JE2ΔSrtA. A ELISA analyses revealed that anti-S. aureus reacted equally with JE2 and JE2ΔSrtA. B The growth of JE2 and JE2ΔSrtA was delayed when they were cultured with anti-S. aureus. Three separate experiments were performed, and the data represent the mean ± standard error of the mean. The p values calculated using one-way or two-way factorial analyses of variance are #p < 0.05 or *p < 0.05; **p < 0.01 and ***p < 0.001, respectively.
