Model of the induction of mitophagy by NCP BVDV to suppress the antiviral innate immune response and apoptosis. NCP BVDV infection promotes the translocation of Drp1 to damaged mitochondria and the phosphorylation of Drp1 at the 616 site to mediate mitochondrial fission for viral replication. Subsequently, the Parkin-mediated complete mitophagy participates in clearance of damaged mitochondria to facilitate viral replication. In addition, the release of mitochondrial contents including mtDNA, mtROS and CYTC from damaged mitochondria can be effectively eliminated by complete mitophagy to inhibit type I interferon signaling, inflammatory responses and apoptosis, which lead to viral evasion of the host antiviral innate immunity.
